So far we have found 5 places that we like for a potential spring/summer wedding. Those places are:
- The Wadsworth Mansion in Middletown, CT http://www.wadsworthmansion.com/
- Lady Katharine boat tours in Old Saybrook, CT http://www.ladykatecruises.com/private_charters_weddings.html
- St. Clement's Castle in Portland, CT http://www.saintclementscastle.com/default.asp
- The Inn at Longshore in Westport, CT http://www.innatlongshore.com/
- The Riverfront in Hartford, CT http://www.riverfront.org/boathouse/weddings_and_special_events/
We're planning on doing a justice of the peace style ceremony, meaning that we can get married at the same place where we will be having our reception. We figure this will make our budget a little more flexible, but will also maximize the amount of time our guests can enjoy themselves without having to leave one location to travel to another.
As things progress I will post links on this website to our various bridal registries and also to an interactive guest list. I want this to be a place where everyone from bridal party to guests can coordinate themselves (as far as who may be purchasing what gift, etc.) and keep up to date on the progress of our wedding. We're always looking for new and creative ideas or suggestions.
Hey you! I have a couple comments for you (hopefully they help!). St. Clements is super cool, but it was like pulling teeth to get any information from them, and I found that they were very expensive. Wadsworth Mansion is EXTREMELY expensive. I also just went there for a tasting (Pavilion Catering owns four wedding places including the Wadsworth Mansion and Crystal Lake where Pat and I are getting married) for our tasting, and the rooms are TINY. It really isn't very well fit for a wedding, but we only saw the downstairs, so maybe they have bigger rooms upstairs or something.
ReplyDeleteHaving a JP doesn't mean it the ceremony is at the venue. It just means you don't have any strong religious ties. You guys could have a priest or anything you want at a ceremony at the venue. It also doesn't really save you money at all. Almost every venue charges a ceremony "site fee" which can be a lot of money. I've seen up to $3,000. Having it in a church would probably be cheaper, but it's also way more of a hassle with driving and whatnot.
I hope this helps! And I vote you don't do blue and purple for your wedding colors because those are my colors! :) I vote blue and green b/c they're so pretty together. :D
Also, Old Saybrook is ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS, so I suggest that! My mom was so mad that I didn't pick a place in Essex or Old Saybrook. It is really expensive there, too, though, since it's all on the shore.
ReplyDeleteHey! Thanks for the advice on the venues. I know a JP doesn't mean that the ceremony will be at the reception location, I just meant that that's what I'm planning on doing. I'm trying to pick locations wherfe I can get married on site so that we can stay at the same location.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I realized I miss-posted one of the venues I liked, it wasn't St. Clement's, I like The Candlewood Inn. I will edit the blog post and put the link up there. What's your wedding website again? I want to save it in my bookmarks because I think I lost the URL.
My wedding website is:

It's also on the RSVP magnet I sent you. :)
I also have a wedding blog, where I talk about how I saved money on things and all the different vendors I hired, purchases I made, etc. It might be helpful!
